Ben produced, designed the set, costume, graphics, website; and took photos for Leah Landau‘s original contemporary dance piece about a family’s murderous impulse while on holiday. Check out the production website here!
A Little Piece is an immersive puppetry performance which was developed for Fringe 2009 with Tipsy Teacup. An audience of 4 enter a small room with cupboards set in the walls, windows into another world, to experience the story of a toy hedgehog called Harry.

After the initial success of Melbourne Model the Musical in 2008, CRUNCH asked Ben to direct the remount of the show as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The result was immensely satisfying, and audience feedback and reviews were very positive.

Paper Jam was the performance outcome from an elective subject in Puppetry. It was performed at MUDFEST (Melbourne University Diversity Festival) and won an award to be staged at the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Designing the set for CRUNCH’s epic and challenging take on the introduction of the Melbourne Model at Melbourne University involved dodging legal issues, creating an aesthetic and style from scratch and working with a talented creative team.

Wilde was a highly designed and artistically directed production as part of the Melbourne International Fringe Festival. Ben designed the set, and was mentored by Anna Tregloan, resident artist at the Malthouse Theatre. This connection proved very valuable and he learned a lot about process.

Directing Urinetown involved simultaneously managing the design of set, costume and lighting. It was created as a piece of entertainment, rather than an art piece. The end product was critically and financially successful.

Enough was a musical devised by Platform Youth Theatre. Designing the set saw challenges in completing tasks within tight deadlines, managing performance in a unorthodox space, and taking part in the creation of the show, not just a reaction to the content.

Directing The Imaginary Invalid (Moliere) for Queens College involved bringing together all elements of the play from set and costume to publicity and music. A specific focus was to make the play enjoyable for purists, regular theatre-goers and those just wanting entertainment!
